How to Install a Vortex Flow Meter?

Vortex flow meter is a kind of flow meter that adopts the principle of Karman vortex flow. It is used to measure the flow rate of liquids, gases and vapors, and it can also be used to measure turbid liquids containing small particles and impurities.

Vortex flow meter is widely used in petroleum, chemical, pharmaceutical, papermaking, metallurgy, electric power, environmental protection, food and other industries. However, how to install a vortex flow meter? In this article, atoflowmeter.com will introduce something about this topic.

Vortex Flow Meter Installation

1. Selection of installation site and environment

  • Try to avoid high-power equipment, high-frequency or frequency conversion equipment, and high-power switching equipment.
  • Try to avoid the influence of high temperature heat sources and radiant heat sources; if the flow meter is installed outdoors, sunshade and rainproof measures should be taken.
  • Try to avoid vibration places and strong corrosive environments, and also consider the convenience of installation and maintenance.

2. Suitable installation location

For the installation position of the vortex flow meter, try to avoid choosing a pipeline with strong vibration, otherwise, vibration reduction measures must be taken, such as installing a shock absorption short joint.

The flow meter can be installed horizontally, vertically and diagonally. When measuring liquids, it must be ensured that the liquid flows from low to high. When measuring gases, the flow direction is not restricted. When measuring steam or high temperature gas, the column of the watch body is 45° from the vertical.

3. Vortex flow meter piping requirements

In order to measure accurately, there must be enough straight pipe sections upstream and downstream of the installation site of the flow meter. There should be no components that affect the upstream fluid flow rate distribution. The following figures show the minimum straight pipe length requirements before and after the flow meter is used under various piping conditions.

4. Grounding Requirements

When installing the vortex flow meter, the flow meter body should be grounded reliably. When the on-site pipeline does not have grounding conditions, a reliable grounding wire should be connected to the grounding terminal of the instrument box.

5. Installation method and welding

The inner diameter of the upstream and downstream pipelines at the installation point of the instrument should be consistent with the inner diameter of the vortex flow meter, and the sensor should be concentric with the pipeline. The gasket between the sensor and the flange must not protrude into the pipe. The specific installation method is shown in the figure below.

After the instrument body is installed for the first time, when the measuring medium is steam or other high temperature medium, the flange bolts should be re-tightened after the pipe is filled with the medium. The pipes are insulated to avoid damage to the amplifier due to excessive ambient temperature.
